Press Release - RegTech Belgium launch

BRUSSELS, CAPITAL OF REGTECH

Since the 2008 crisis, governments and authorities rose up the number of regulations the financial sector has to comply with.  The objective is to protect better the clients, to bring transparency  and to stop the money-laundering and terrorist financing.

The ones who don't comply can face dramatic consequences. EU banks paid over $16 billion in fines between 2012 and 2018. (source : Moody’s).

While banks are spending more and more on regulation and compliance, regtechs propose technological solutions to tackle the problem, bring efficiency and better user experiences.

At the heart of regulatory decisions, RegTech thrives with a very high rate of adoption: more than 30 Regtechs are established in Belgium!

FCA (UK) describes RegTech as “the adoption of new technologies to facilitate the delivery of regulatory requirements”. It is operating in several areas such as AML (anti-money laundering), KYC, risk management, reporting etc...

The Belgian RegTech influencer Koen Vanderhoydonk and Author Robert van Beek joined forces with 19 international experts to explore what RegTech really is about, publishing the RegTech Blackbook.*

RegTech is much more than a subset of FinTech. RegTech is a movement, join us!” – Koen Vanderhoydonk

A new FinTech Belgium vertical is born… Long live RegTech Belgium!

It was only natural that Regtech members of the FinTech Belgium federation decided to join forces and create a new association in the Capital of RegTech.

Their mission: to share, inform and develop collaboration between the different stakeholders of the financial and regulatory ecosystem.

Jean-François Heering, CEO of Vadis Technologies and ambassador of RegTech Belgium: “Our ambition is to actively promote our Regtech interests in Belgium and abroad. We want to be a platform for dialogue with regulators and parties, making member’s voices heard”.

#BeyondBoring, RegTech goals are about improved governance, positive customer experience, transparency and market integrity.
