Fire Chat at La French Tech Brussels: Can Europe win the war of talents?

Fintech Belgium had the pleasure of attending La French Tech Brussels Event for the Fire Chat: Can Europe win the war of talent?

In the iconic Flagey building, our CEO, Alessandra Guion, had the privilege of moderating the panel discussion "Can Europe win the war of talent?" This engaging conversation was part of the dynamic La French Tech Brussels Event , held in the historic former CEO's corner office.

Alessandra was joined by Vincent Charvillat, Deputy Executive Director at Institut Mines-Telecom (IMT), and Jeroen Franssen from Agoria, who worked on the very interesting report "Be The Change". Together, they explored whether Europe is ready to secure digital sovereignty by attracting and retaining top talent.

The discussion began with a look at the current talent landscape in the digital sector: a significant mismatch between company needs and available talent, and a shrinking pool of skilled professionals.

However, the conversation soon turned to solutions and Europe's strengths. Key points included:

  • Need for Collaboration: Emphasising the importance of working together across companies, educational institutions, and governments.

  • Networks and New Institutions: Highlighting the role of innovative training networks and institutions in raising education standards.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Promoting the exchange of best practices and innovations across Europe.

  • Creating an Attractive Environment: Developing competitive hubs of excellence to attract top talent.

  • Adequate Funding: Ensuring sufficient financial resources to support talent development initiatives.

  • Mobility: Encouraging the movement of skilled professionals across European countries to enhance collaboration and innovation.

Reflecting on her experience, Alessandra emphasised the need to focus on the attractiveness of a Europe that is mobilising around its identity and its values.

This event not only sparked crucial conversations about Europe's future in the digital talent landscape, but reinforced the power of collaboration and a shared vision in driving progress and innovation forward.

The event also offered fantastic networking opportunities! It was great to meet Nicolas Vincent, Claire Munck, Emmanuelle Ghislain, Victoria Cannilla, Michel Duchateau, Thibaud Elziere, Christian des Lauriers, Stéphane GaloisCharlene Crespel, Bruno Colmant, Clara Chappaz

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the incredible team of volunteers and brilliant speakers who made the event possible! Special thank you to Geoffroy Verney-Carron, Charlotte Lyonnet, Anne-Christine Genouville, Virginie Vanhouche, and Sandrine Matichard for having us and their precious help in organising the fireside chat.
